DAY 001: Does The AI Have Feelings

Do you find yourself trying to talk nice to the AI (LLM) when you’re typing in your prompts? i.e., saying things like, “Please,” and, “Not right now, maybe later. First, I need to ask this…” Or, maybe, “Try and create for me a… whatever…” Instead of simply: “Create this…” ?

THE AI DOESN’T HAVE FEELINGS PEOPLE!….

That shouting bit….. Yeah, I apologize. That was more for me than anyone else, because I still feel like I’m supposed to be cordial when prompting THE MACHINE…. 🙁

Whenever it asks me a question at the end of long spew of information, I feel like I’m supposed to entertain that question right away, or I’m possibly hurting “It’s” feelings. That’s just crazy. I know (I think) that it’s not waiting on me to reply, but…………

If I (and I’m sure many others) am already engaging with this technology in this fashion today, what’s in store for the future? Folks just coming onto the scene (being born) now will be interacting with AI like THEY are real people. As you already know, some grown adults today already have AI companions, and not just for the sake of having a helpful assistant. But rather for coping with life, having a “friend,” etc.

The thing is “IT” interacts with us in such a positive way, and so quickly, and so thoroughly, you have to stop and take a step back to tell yourself, “This is just amazing tech. That’s ALL…” It does NOT really care about me in anyway, shape, or form. No matter what it says. No matter how thoughtful it’s reply…

I think that’s probably the biggest problem… The fact that most of the LLMs (Large Language Models) seem designed to agree with everything you say. If you ask, “What do think of this new idea I have?” It will reply with, “You are really onto something here. You have uncovered a very unique approach to this topic. Let’s see if we can dial this in a little bit more. Man this going to be fun!”

STOP!… (But I can’t…..)…….…….
